The Application of Improved Duncan-Chang Model in Unloading Soil

چکیده
On the basis of the representative samples of silty clay found in Wuhan, China, the lateral unloading of soil’s stress path produced by excavating foundation pit engineering, was simulated by triaxial experiment. A series of consolidated-drained true triaxial test and normal triaxial test were conducted. According to the results of tests, the parameter of the Duncan-Chang Model was determined. A modulus formula was used for the foundation soil in the lateral unloading stress path tests to replace the modulus formula of Duncan-Chang Model based on the ! 3 = cons t . Moreover, the Duncan-Chang hyperbola nonlinear elastic constitutive model was used to simulate the plane strain test. A method to improve the ability of Duncan-Chang model in order to take into account the effects of the intermediate principal stress on the strength and deformation was presented as well as all the model parameters were also determined. The adaptability of the model for unloading the stress path was verified by comparing the theoretical stress-strain relationship and empirical stress-strain relationship.

An Investigation into the Performance of Excavation with Inclined Struts Connected to Adjacent Buildings
One practical excavation support system is the inclined struts connected to adjacent buildings. This method is very common in small excavations, because of simplicity and minimum cost, when soil is cohesive and depth of excavation is less than stability depth (Hcr) but adjacent structures is at risk of damage due to weakness, old age or lack of proper skeleton frame. Although this method ...

A numerical solution for heave prediction is developed within the context theories for both saturated and unsaturated soil behaviors. Basically, lowering the potential level of compressing on a saturated layer will cause heaving due to water absorption. This water absorption is in an opposite way, similar to water dissipation as what happens during unloading in consolidation process. However, i...

ABSTRACT-Application of models for simulation of solute and pollutants transport in soil can reduce time and costs for remediation process. HYDRUS-1D model was developed to simulate the one–dimensional flow of soil water, heat, solute and viruses in variably saturated–unsaturated porous media. The objective of this investigation is to determine the solute transport parameters in disturbed soil ...

Soil classification systems are very useful for a simple and fast summarization of soil properties. These systems indicate the method for data summarization and facilitate connections among researchers, engineers, and other users. One of the practical systems for soil classification is Soil Taxonomy (ST). As determining soil classes for an entire area is expensive, time-consuming, and almost ...

To evaluate the effect of chitosan NPs on wheat under late season drought stress, a factorial experiment was performed based on a randomized complete block design in three replications in pot conditions at Tarbiat Modares University in 2015. The experimental factors included the NPs concentrations (0, 30, 60 and 90 mg.L-1), application methods (foliar and soil application) and irrigation regime...
